ReplyDeleteI surprised 4 students say something(sorry I didn't remember what they said.) from the riverbank and the teacher was shouting from a boat. The students answered it with loud voice. I think in debate we can't win only perfect knowledge. We need to know how to emphasize our opinion. So I think loud voice and clear voice are important things for debate.
Thank you very much Mr. Huskey. I like IRS class because I like the style of the class. I liked debate. The most interesting class for me was Vegetarian. I like the last lesson,Fake article too. But the best is Firework (BRS!!) thank you very much :)

DeleteI was surprised that they separate college, I didn't know that. I was also surprised about Mr, Farmer can speak 6 languages.

A-1. I think what surprised me the most in the movie are when I saw the face of the man who was beaten up at the police station (maybe) and the man who was strung up by his neck and was set on fire. It’s just so scary to see and…I don’t know. They’re just not fair.
ReplyDelete2. I think this movie is really inspiring and it thought us/me the importance of education. It also thought us/me that the important debate techniques are always anticipating the opposition and it will come back to you; that we should speak loud and clear and that we should know who the judge is.
3. The whole film was really fantastic but I guess the situation that left the biggest impression on me was in the beginning of the film. When Mr. When Mr. Tolson talked about how every teacher at that college, including him is there to help all the students to find, take back and keep their righteous mind. Also the last part when James Farmer spoken his last words in the debate. It’s just really moving.
(By the way, I know this is not connected with the topic but do you know if the lake in this movie is the same lake in the movie The Notebook? I’m just curious. :P)
B. Thank you for teaching us interesting things! I really like YOUR class. It was never boring. You were never boring. I just wished that we had more time when it comes to debating. Though, I’m not good at it I like it. I hope you’ll never change on making our classes fun and interesting. :P
I was surprised about discrimination.There were so many discrimination scene(black and white) in this movie.For example, when they debated with Oklahoma City university,they had to debated at outside of university.I was really shocked that they couldn't enter to university of white.

I was shocked about how white discriminate black people. Those evil things acutually did happend!!! I thought the teacher is abit strict but his students became great debater. They spoke in a loud voice, powerful expression and their body language...I wish I could say my opinion like them.

I was suprised about a black man was on the fire. He was tied his legs and arms together with a rope by white people. Then, he fell out on the fire. He burned and passed away. They wached it. Then, white people found them and they ran after them. When I wached it I was so scary and sad. Because thier skin were just black, so they were discrimination. It was not fair. I learned from the movie about how to be a good debater. If I want to be a good debater, I have to speak loud and clear. and I also understand the topic well. What situation left the biggest impression on me was the debate with white students for the first time. Samantha spoke emotionally. She seemed to be crying. it was moving me.

ReplyDeleteI learned that we need to try from this movie.
Black people were discriminated, but the 4 debaters tried to tell their opinion and they were succeed. Their opinions were stronger than the white people! The way how they spoke at the front were very attractive and I was moved by their speech.
So I learned that I need to use loud and clear voice, proper body language and FEELINGS that "I want to tell about this !" when I do a speech in front of people.

I think it was good for us to do a discussion because we can share our opinions and say we agree or not. Actually, our discussion was like a speech(just tell our opinion and go to the next person). But it was good that we could understand a lot of each topics.
Also, I think blog post was a good one! Everyweek, I thought "Oh, blog post again..." but now, I think it was a really good experience.
We could debate more easily than we debate in the lessons, because it was not ' face to face '. And we can see everyone's opinion anytime, because it won't dissapear. When we speak in the lessons, the memories will be gone soon.
I feel sad that I can't have your lessons anymore..but I won't forget your lessons! And I will use those knowledges you gave us in the third grade's lessons.

I surprised the way which blacks did for the speech. At first they were speaking from river not to be shy in front of people.(included whites.) Therefore they spoke their opinions emotionally with their big voice!! So I learned the more I practice, the more I speak for everyone naturally and also I impressed their behaviors for speech.

A) I was surprised at four students. Because they did good debate with confidence and they debated in adversity. I think I can't debate like them but I want to be like them.

I heard about discrimination of black people, but the real is more severe than I thought. Many black people had been separated by just one reason, they were colored. Definitely, every human have some differences, but this can't be reason for discrimination I think, because we are the same animal. Nothing more, and nothing less. Until now, in this world, discriminations have been continued. I hope black people can live their lives like white people.

I like this movie.James Farmer Jr. was good character and I also like his father.I was surprised the action of when Mr. James Farmer was run over and killed pig by a car. He was braved and he did everything he could do to help his familly. If I were him, I can not stand it whatever they had a gun. I was really impressed with his brave. And another sean, he helped Mr.Tolson when he was arrested by police by his great conversation technique. He did not do any violence. He against by only his talking technique. His action was big inspired for his son. I learned words have big power from this movie and Mr.James Farmers action.I wish peace of all over the world with no violence just debating.

ReplyDelete1 The Lynching Scene in Texas was what surprised me the most. I thought that discrimination itself is already worst, but Lynching black people was too much. It's sad to think that they could easily kill black people during that time.
2. There's a lot of lessons I learned from this movie. It thought me that Education is really important and it's really indispensable for everyone, knowing that we can gain a lot of knowledge from it. especially knowing about Human rights. And also, The black people inspired me by their bravery, fighting for justice and standing for what is right, which is an important thing for everyone, for us to make a better and equal society.
3. A lot of scenes left a big impression on me, but I think the best is when they had a debate in Oklahoma City. When the girl said this script, "ls it gonna come tomorrow? ls it gonna come next week? ln a hundred years? Never? No, the time for justice, the time for freedom, and the time for equality is always, is always, right now!". I was moved watching the black girl giving it all fighting for her rights as a Human being and I felt sad watching the white people opposing the black people and not knowing that they are just the same human being. I thought that discrimination is really a non-sense kind of action, because we are all human, we all live in the same planet and breath the same air, and we were all created by God equally. So the time for equality is always right now.

I really really thank you for coming to our school to teach us not just English but many more things that we can use in our daily lives and in the future.
IRS with Huskey was more than just learning English. From doing debates, you taught us how to be a good citizen, teaching us about discrimination, segregation, and globalization, you helped us to be an open-minded person, with your sense of humor, techniques, and being frank to us, it helped us to gain confidence not just to speak English, but also to communicate and interact with different people, with your really unique personality, you helped us to see things in many other ways and changed our perspectives of things from bad to good, and knowing that you are a teacher during the day and DJ during the night, you broke my stereotype thinking of having two different jobs. THANK YOU for giving us a lot of knowledge and for inspiring all of us! we will never forget you! You are more than an awesome teacher!

I was surprised about white people killed black boy by fire. I couldn’t see perfectly that scene, because it was too shocking.

I knew that there were discrimination of black people. But I didn't know that they were attacked too violent by white people. Ex :white people threatened black people with a gun and white people burned black man...etc

What I learned from this story is that We should have more debate skill to stand up to the issue of discrimination.

Actually I didn't like discussion at first. At that time I couldn't speak clearly my opinion without paper, so I couldn't debate with my friends. We practiced discussion many times in your class so my debate skill was improving (I believe)

A)The most surprising thing in that movie was how terrible discriminations there were at the time, and also how diligence black people were at the time. I was really really impressed by that scene,one black person was burned by lots of white people. I was shocked deeply when I watched it. I didn't know the discriminations to the black people were how terrible ones before I watched this film. I have one more thing that I was surprised, it was that how diligence black people were. I din't know that either before I watched this film. I guess that white people at the time didn't know that,like me. Not to know makes prejudices, and that's why discrimination at the time escalated, I guess also. Totally, I was sometimes scared,but I was appreciate that I was able to watch this film,Great Debater,so I have to thank to teachers who choose this film! LOL

It is a good movie. Even the girl, if you try to do effort to make your dream come true, you can do it. The discrimination is still in this world, we try to change the world but it is difficult for us.
ReplyDeleteBack to the debate. A good debator requires a lot of knowledge and clear eloquence. So they are really good student even white or black. Even the girl, also can do what they want to do. We should be patient to the thing we really want to do. The god let you lose something he must give you another talent. So we should be confident with ourselves.
I love your lesson. I can relax in your lesson. I don't know why. Maybe just like talk with each other, exchange the opinions then make a big finish. Because just student so we don't need to be ashamed of our English. On the other hand it is easy for us to say our idea. So really thank for your kindness and you are a really funny teacher. I enjoy having lunch with you. You can be a best debator I think.

A) This movie thought about many things. I watched it in English so I could understand only 20%. But while I watched it, I was surprised about a lot of things. For example, there was a char which was only white people. I couldn't understand why black people couldn't use the chair. It's not fair. Also I was surprised about a black was killed by white people. And white people watched it! His or her legs were burned by fire. I couldn't watch the scene all. I learned about discrimination in BRS class & IRS class, but it was first time to watch about discrimination. I was shocked because there were so many discrimination. I think it's easy to say "discrimination is bad" so we have to think about what should I do.
